Kim Jin Wook, Chief Prosecutor of Korea’s Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), paid a visit to the headquarters of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in Sydney, Austrailia, on June 2 (local time). During the meeting, Kim met with Chief Commissioner John Hatzistergos to discuss collaborative measures aimed at addressing corruption offenses.

Both parties provided an overview of their respective countries’ criminal justice systems, roles and functions, as well as shared their agencies’ investigative activities and experiences since their establishment. The discussions focused on exploring collaborative measures to combat corruption crimes, particularly within the public sector.

Kim stated, “In order to strengthen our ability to combat corruption offenses, it is crucial for the CIO to learn from the experiences of overseas anticorruption agencies.” In response, Hatzistergos expressed his hope that the ICAC’s experiences could contribute to the growth and development of Korea’s CIO.

Following his visit to New Zealand and Australia, Kim is scheduled to return to Korea on the afternoon of June 3, concluding his seven-day trip.
